Đang xem: Brilliant live music bar in saigon

Named after Yoko Ono, Yoko Cafe was a pioneering live music venue in Saigon in the early 2000s. Many young Vietnamese musicians began their careers here. After some ups and downs and ownership changes, it’s back in the hands of some of the people who made it great. Yoko”s back to life in 2016 with live music Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. There’s a fancy new fit-out too. The music line-up varies from pop and rock cover bands, jazz and blues, to original indie and experimental tunes – performed mainly by local musos with occasional appearances by expats and visitors. DJs and events are occasionally hosted as well. It’s a broad mix served up in a friendly, cosy space with reasonably priced drinks. There’s food available as well. Yoko owners Hoai Anh and To Phuong aka. Tofu, are old friends and great musicians. Their performances are always a highlight. Yoko’s rebirth fills a void in Saigon for young musicians and music lovers – we’re looking forward to seeing it prosper.By day Yoko opens as a cafe. Recommended.Sadly, Yoko remains a smoking venue.DisclosureRusty Compass recommendations are always independent. We list the places we think you should know about. That’s it. No money changes hands for a recommendation. The owners of Yoko are old friends and we’ve played music together too. We’re very happy to see it back.
