In our post today we’d like to present UMA, one of the most appreciated furniture retailers in town by expats and Vietnamese alike. UMA has huge merit in the sense that it has filled the huge void existing in the furniture retail scene for consumers that were looking for modern or western looking furniture in a store environment reminiscent in many aspects of the Swiss behemoth of furniture retail, IKEA.

When visiting a UMA shop for the first time, it did seem like we were visiting a mini-IKEA since the array of available products really go through many ranges related to home furnishings and decoration equipment. This concept has taken off and now UMA enjoys up to seven locations around Vietnam, mainly in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City, HCMC) and Hanoi.

The price range is very convenient for those looking to purchase low to middle priced western style furniture, with acceptable quality. This was the same idea and concept that brought the worldwide success of IKEA and the reason so many people are waiting for the Swedish giant to open its doors to the Vietnamese customers, supposedly in 2015.

UMA started its operations in 2006 and was founded by three dynamic entrepreneurs who understood perfectly the opportunity in the home furnishing and decoration market as well as the lack of competition for reasonably priced western style furniture. The first collection was designed by Rebecca Uth and Maya Robert.

In 2007, the first UMA retail store was opened in Tran Huy Lieu, Hanoi and a second one followed in My Dinh.

In 2008, another furniture store was opened in Lo Duc.

In 2009, besides opening another furniture shop in Doi Can (Hanoi), two landmark events took place that year: the launching of the internet site and the employment of their hundredth employee.

2010 was the year that UMA opened its first furniture shop in HCMC (Phu My Hung, District 7).

As you can see, an impressive track record of a very dynamic company, setting the benchmark for furniture retail in Vietnam.

We are happy to bring new options to the discerning customer in Vietnam who is looking to purchase furniture for his home, office or hotel project. In our case, we only work with high-end and luxury products so our customer base will probably be different from the core of UMA’s faithful customers.

In any event, the choice and options of purchasing French, Italian or Scandinavian (Danish) furniture in Vietnam are getting more and more varied and this will definitely benefit consumers wherever they may be, HCMC or Hanoi, Da Nang or Nha Trang, you name it, the horizon for decorating your home is expanding by the minute.
