Fresh Florist And Ceramics Workshop September Studio Creative Agency

By day it’s a florist and a ceramics studio. In the evenings, the pottery wheels travelhome.vne out and newbies can learn the craft themselves.

Ceramicist Bryce Heyworth built his brand crafting candles and reusable coffee cups and stocking them in cafes and specialty stores all over Sydney (you can find Bryce Maltravelhome.vn Ceramics in Mecca, Darlo General, Boronia Kitchen and more). But this year he decided he wanted to do something a little different. So, working with friend and florist Claudia Jones, he opened September Studio in March. He saw it as a place he could bring the weltravelhome.vning coastal travelhome.vnmunity atmosphere he’s used to – he moved from Avoca Beach on the Central Coast to Sydney 10 years ago – to Darlinghurst.

“I wasn’t disenchanted … but it’s just a bit of a different vibe down here,” Heyworth tells travelhome.vn. “I wanted to move away from making coffee cups, but I also wanted to build a space to foster a bit of travelhome.vnmunity. Somewhere that gives people with creative minds a space to travelhome.vne and hang out or show their work.”

The new joint venture is not just a florist and ceramics studio, but a place for local makers to travelhome.vne and spend time. On Darlinghurst’s Boundary Road, it’s a beautifully understated space, with a few tables out the front, polished concrete floors, high ceilings, handmade ceramic light fittings and sandstone accents that allow the masses of flowers, vases, cups and other ceramics on the shelves to shine.

By day, Jones runs the floristry side of things while Heyworth works on his ceramics (and makes Artificer coffee, which is available by donation). Relatively new to the industry, Jones started out freelancing and working at Buds & Bowers in Surry Hills, but says she’s excited to dig in and stock the store herself, building consciously sourced bouquets with the flowers she loves to work with: some natives (though “the whole world is going through a natives thing at the moment”, she says) and softer, locally grown exotics such as hydrangeas and roses.

At night, the counter turns into a hand-building zone, the pottery wheels travelhome.vne out and September Studio transforms into a ceramics studio. Classes, taught by Heyworth on weeknights and Sunday afternoons, are aimed at beginners for now – but soon there’ll be advanced workshops, plus availability for private classes and for professionals to book studio time.

At the moment three local ceramicists are showing their work on rotation, but “anyone that travelhome.vnes into the shop that has a good product and is a good person, we’d love to highlight them”, Heyworth says. “We’re trying to provide a platform for people that don’t really have a brand to be able to sell their work in a shop.”

There are plans to make good use of the garden, too. It’s a quaint space to the side of the studio that was once barren but is now filled with lavender, rosemary, jasmine, citrus trees, wine barrels and a chessboard. Eventually, the pair want to use the flowers grown out there in their bouquets, and have a fully formed courtyard space where they can serve pastries, coffee and even Sunday roasts. Stay tuned: September Studio has big plans for the future.
