Hethyr P.YA E-RYT 500, YACEPCo-Owner

Hethyr is sincerely grateful for each and every teacher – past, present, and future – for all guidance offered on her own spiritual path. She received her 200- and 300-Hour Yoga Teacher certifications with Mike and Charlotte Matsumura, the founders of Pranava Yoga Center, and was co-owner of Pranava with her husband Jon from 2014-2020. She continues her yogic studies with her teachers Manorama, founder of Sanskrit Studies and the Luminous Soul Method (https://sanskritstudies.org/), and Hansa, owner of PranaYoga and Ayurveda Mandala in Denver (https://pyamandala.com/).

She’s currently taking time off from teaching in order to rest and heal from some long-term health challenges, but she is infinitely grateful for the opportunity she had to serve the extraordinary PYC community.

 Jon P.Co-Owner

Jon began his yogic journey when his wife, Hethyr, forced him to bring his inflexible and unbalanced body to a yoga class. He found the practice to be healthy for his mind, body, and soul, and he was immediately drawn to the amazing spirit and energy of the Pranava yoga community. Over the next several years, he happily practiced yoga on a regular basis, usually taking classes taught by his awesome wife.

As a first grade teacher at Manitou Springs Elementary School, Jon teaches yoga to his students every day. He gets tremendous satisfaction from watching them bend, stretch, flop, fall, wiggle, and bounce their way through various yoga movements and postures. He continues to learn meaningful yogic values from his first graders, including kindness, forgiveness, and presence in the moment.

Alison teaches in the Vinyasa tradition, which is a flowing style of yoga that links breath with movement and teaches principles of alignment as a therapeutic approach for the body. She understands yoga is to be practiced on and off the mat and is always looking to find ways to convey that in class. It is Alison’s joy to share this lifelong practice that brings so much balance, fulfillment and vibrant health.

Beth truly believes that yoga is for everybody and every body. It wasn’t until Beth’s pregnancy that she discovered yoga with a gentle home practice. Once her daughter was born, she continued with some DVD’s and online videos for the physical practice after her high-risk pregnancy caused damage to her hips and knees, halting her old practices of running and high impact aerobics. A couple of years later, her daughter was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder, leading Beth down a path of learning the importance of moving the body and the effects of it on the mind. Bearing witness to the benefits of movement with her toddler through therapy and yoga, Beth decided to share the gift of yoga first with kids. She became certified in Children’s Yoga and has taught studio and afterschool kid’s classes around Colorado Springs since.

*

Shortly thereafter, Pranava Yoga Center ignited her passion to teach adult yoga and inspired her to live yoga as a lifestyle, not just an exercise. She completed her 200 Hour YTT with Hethyr Pletsch at Pranava and has been teaching in the studio since graduation. Her experience with kid’s yoga translates into her classes with her fun demeanor and ability to adapt to the needs of the students.

Outside of teaching yoga, Beth enjoys spending time with her husband, Steven, spunky daughter, Kellyn, and lovable pup, Rocky. She loves to road trip with her family, read young adult novels (#HarryPotterForever), and hike around Colorado.

Briana is originally from San Antonio and has spent the better part of her life in Black Forest. She finds inspiration and solace from nature, through various forms of art, hiking, and exploration.

*

Her first yoga practice was guided by an online instructor in 2008. After experiencing awareness of breath with movement, she was intrigued and quickly began exploring various styles of yoga in public classes. In the years that followed, her practice remained public and yoga continued to serve as a precious tool to aid with physical and emotional stress. It was in the wake of birthing her son in the forest like snow white that her home practice was rekindled. The consistency of her practice was life transforming. The physical practice of yoga provided a way to explore self-love and acceptance on a physical, mental, and spiritual level. This new way of relating to herself and the world provided a path towards balance.

Driven by her desire to encourage others on their paths of self-love and acceptance, she enrolled and completed the 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training program at Pranava Yoga Center under Hethyr Pletsch. She is passionate in assisting others in reconnecting with their power, body, and limitless potential.

Callie K.YA RYT 200

*
*

As a long-time athlete, Callie originally sought yoga as a way to bring calm into her otherwise highly competitive life. It became a space to release self-judgment and simply enjoy movement. She became more devoted to her practice as an adult and found ways to share yoga with others, adapting what she’d learned for her preschool students and for coaching teenage athletes.

Once in the Springs, Callie was drawn to Pranava and completed the 200-hour teacher training under Hethyr Pletsch. Callie seeks to create a space of learning and growth in a safe and welcoming environment. Her classes are challenging but accessible to all bodies.

She is so grateful to Pranava for becoming her yoga home and to her teachers, who brought depth and clarity to her practice, allowing her to live more consciously and freely. Although a beach girl at heart, Callie loves this new opportunity to explore the mountains with her husband and son.

During his military service, physical therapists suggested Charles look into yoga to address service related injuries. He admits that he rolled his eyes and thought “No way! I ain’t doing no yoga. You thinking I’m going to move to Boulder.” After seeing the yoga schedule at the Briargate YMCA, he decided to check out a class. After 3 classes he sensed there was something to “this yoga stuff” and his yoga journey began.

Charles, who is retired from the Army, can relate with retired and active duty military on how yoga can help mend physical, emotional and spiritual pain the military may carry. He loves sharing his love of yoga and expanding his knowledge by attending workshops, conferences and practicing with different teachers. He loves the union and connections yogis have; “there is less than 6 degrees of separation with yoga and yogis.” It’s is such a wonderful way to bring people together. He jokingly refers to himself as the “Yoga Ambassador for Colorado.” This is a reference to his contacts, fellow yogis and teachers that he has met within the yogi community.

Now, at 69 years of age, he is happier than ever before. Teaching the amazing path of Kundalini yoga and sharing his hard earned wisdom is his joy. Yoga became a part of Goi”s life in 2006 when she first attended a corporate yoga studio in Bangkok, Thailand, where she was born and grew up. Early in her practice, self-care was her priority in attending yoga. But later on, Goi found yoga to be more of a meditative path in her daily life. She has found that yoga helps her build length, strength, and a peaceful space in her heart and mind — along with an awareness of the importance of remaining in the present and being grateful in life. The inner peace that yoga gives her after each class helps her to be more ready to give of herself and care for others when the time arises. Yoga teaches her to see and respect differences in each person, and to resist comparison, competition, and judgement. All of this has led to yoga becoming Goi’s true passion in life.

*

In August of 2015, Goi and her husband Seth decided to move back to the U.S. permanently in order for their only daughter to receive an education in the U.S. After being a full-time mom for six years, she decided to follow her true passion by becoming a certified teacher through the 200-hour teacher training at Pranava Yoga Center.

Here in Colorado Springs, Goi has also followed another of her passions, her love of working with children, by becoming a preschool teacher. When she has extra time, Goi loves to spend it with her husband and daughter, practice yoga, go hiking, read, watch American comedy series, and cook Thai food for her family. Yoga is a life long journey for Goi, and presently she enjoys practicing with various teachers so she can bring that knowledge and experience to share with other practitioners in her classes.

Darlene is originally from the lovely, tiny state of Connecticut. After 30 years of serving as an active duty army wife, she now calls Colorado Springs home. She has been married to Bryan for over 30 years and is the proud mom of six beautiful and feisty human beings! Family, friends, yoga, and nature are her jams!

She was first introduced to yoga when she was a young teen. Her practice became consistent in 2002 when she started a strong asana practice with friends to supplement her fitness program. After the birth of her twins, she threw herself into the study of yoga beyond her asana practice. Yoga was her way to find the quiet within she so badly craved. She had teens, tweens, and newborn twins when her family moved to Hawaii. Her husband would spend the next year preparing for a 12-month deployment to Iraq. The stress to keep everyone and everything steady during those two years before and during the deployment was palpable. She can honestly say that her daily practice— getting onto her mat – is what kept her steady, grounded, and renewed. Some days she would simply sit on her mat and breath. At that time, she didn’t use the word meditation but that is what she was doing.

Yoga is her lifestyle. Integrating mind, body, and spirit brings her such joy and allows her to be more present to others. Practicing with her Pranava family, she has deepened her practice of the 8 limbs of yoga and she looks forward to sharing her practice with you.

Dawn is a retired child welfare social worker from Louisville, KY. Her current passions, besides yoga, are world travel, hiking, enjoying life with her husband Scot and loving her pup Michou.

She began taking yoga classes 16 years ago while recovering from injuries from two back-to-back car accidents. She learned that yoga can not only benefit a broken body, but it can also nourish the mind and spirit. It is the transformational power of yoga that inspired her to teach.

She experienced supportive yoga instruction in classes taught by key teachers at both Infinite Bliss in Louisville and Pranava in Colorado Springs. It is their example that drives her desire to provide the same kind of supportive yoga classes. Her classes are designed with the intent to support a student’s individual growth and meet them where they are both physically and personally.

After practicing for many years, Dawn completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training at Pranava. She has also taken yin and adaptive trainings. Yoga is her passion and she wants to share it with others. She believes yoga is something that can benefit everyone both on and off the mat. Dawn is also a reikipractitioner and health coach. Ivy S.YA RYT 200

*

The pivoting point in Ivy’s yoga journey was when the army stationed her in Daegu, South Korea. Looking to continue her physical yoga practice, she found Ayurveda Yoga Academy, a studio that grew to become her family away from home. Ayurveda introduced her to different ways yoga can strengthen the body, mind, and spirit connection beyond just the asana practice. Ivy could not get enough of yoga, moving from only taking English classes to experiencing Korean classes and taking 1:1 personal classes. A spark inside her was ignited.

After her year in South Korea ended, the army moved her to Colorado Springs. She could feel the vibrant and welcoming energy the moment she walked into Pranava Yoga Center. There was no doubt in Ivy’s mind that it would become her yoga home. Wanting to deepen her yoga practice on and off the mat, she enrolled in Pranava’s 200-hour teacher training under Hethyr Pletsch. Teaching was not at the forefront of her mind, but as the program continued, she started to find her voice and found immense joy in teaching and sharing yoga with others. Ivy seeks to create a fun and welcoming space for her students to explore and feel empowered by yoga.

When Ivy isn’t doing yoga, she’s helping make beautiful smiles as an army dentist or enjoying the beautiful Colorado wilderness with her husband and pup.

Jillian grew up on a produce and flower farm in Lancaster, PA where she enjoyed practicing her gymnastics skills between rows of corn and blueberries. Although not as narrow as a balance beam, it helped straighten out her cartwheels. Years later Jillian discovered the asana limb of Yoga and found her years as a gymnast helpful. Asana practice led to a curiosity about meditation which led to an understanding of pranayama which eventually led her to Pranava Yoga Center where she completed her 200 hour Yoga teacher training. Yoga is teaching Jillian how to live wholly, presently, and with equanimity. Jillian is committed to taking her Yoga practice off the mat and into her daily experiences. Besides practicing Yoga, Jillian enjoys hiking Colorado”s mountains, mapping out and then walking long “urban hikes” routes around the city of Colorado Springs, gardening, and working on her snowboarding skills. Jillian and Trey welcomed their daughter Lotus into this existence in September of 2019. Let the adventures continue!

Kristin attended her first yoga class in 1985 as an exploration of different movement modalities while studying dance therapy at Naropa University. She has been studying and practicing yoga, meditation, and Buddhist philosophy ever since. “My time at Naropa was fundamental in forming my relationship to myself, my experience, and the world of perception and form.” In 2009, Kristin began the bhakti yoga practice of Kirtan, devotional singing and chanting in Sanskrit, which led her to form the Kirtan group Bhagavan Kirtan! with Bruce Reddick. She and Bruce present the beautiful practice of Kirtan throughout Colorado, sharing their love of devotion.

Along with bhakti yoga, Kristin”s experience in dance, dance therapy, and authentic movement form the foundation of her yoga teaching. Kristin has studied many forms of yoga including Iyengar, Ashtanga, Kripalu, and recently completed certification in Alignment Principles. Kristin is a graduate of Pranava Yoga Center”s RYT 200 hr. Teacher Training Program and is deeply committed to radical alignment through body mind and spirit. She approaches her classes with compassion, heart-centered uplifting vibes, and encourages students to dive into the depths of their experience, whatever that might be. Having a keen interest in the spiritual origins of yoga, Kristin strives to include an inner awareness of spiritual development in every class. “Yoga has deeply transformed my life in every way – through asana, pranayama, meditation and devotion, I feel more vibrant, alive, and at home in my own skin every day and long to share and encourage this aliveness with others.”

LeAnne C.YA E-RYT 500, YACEP

After practicing consistently for 20 years, LeAnne Carrouth decided to take the plunge and certify to teach through the Pranava 200-hour teacher training. She is delighted and honored to bring yoga’s many benefits to all practitioners. Her joyful compassion and down-to-earth sense of humor bring perspective to the practice.

LeAnne’s background as a competitive gymnast in her long ago youth set her up to enjoy inversions, but her foray into yoga began on the floor of her classroom during her planning period when she was teaching middle school. The energy and patience that she could bring to her students after a short practice was remarkable. Her practice became more consistent when a car accident took running out of the picture for an extended time. Yoga was both therapeutic and challenging.

In the rest of her life, LeAnne writes and directs videos with her husband John Bourbonais and enjoys her unusual family, reading, theater and film, as well as cooking and the New York Times crossword puzzle. (yep, super-nerdy!) She is grateful to yoga for the gifts that it has bestowed and to the lineage (however circuitous) that brought the teaching to her.

Michelle grew up in Colorado Springs and began practicing yoga while in high school, mostly to videos and in the gym. She continued her practice off and on but really started to notice that there was more to Yoga than asana in 2016. She thought that it was beautiful how it connected the mind, body, and spirit, and decided to dive deeper and get her 200-Hour RYT through Pranava Yoga Center. Michelle is excited about sharing all that Yoga can bring to her student’s lives both on and off the mat. She also encourages her children to practice “Yoga with mom” because of all the benefits it brings. She loves to teach and bring smiles to everyone she meets. When she’s not doing Yoga, Michelle is spending time with her family exploring the beauty of Colorado.

Morgan grew up in Texas and was first introduced to yoga when she was about 3 years old by her mom who encouraged her practice as a means of controlling anxiety and stress. Of course, no kid actually listens to their parents until it becomes their own idea, so her consistent asana practice began while she was attending grad school as a way to, yes, control anxiety and stress.

Morgan’s favorite styles of yoga are Vinyasa, Yin, and Restorative. Vinyasa initially drew her to the physical practice of yoga and in the past few years, has found that both Yin and Restorative are amazing balances to her high-energy personality and ways to focus on renewal. After reaping the many physical, spiritual, and mental wellness benefits of yoga, she wanted to share the magic of the 8 Limbs with others and pursued her 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training at Pranava Yoga Center under Hethyr Pletsch. Morgan strives to create a safe space of inclusivity and accessibility to explore personal growth, which is largely why she chose PYC as her yoga home – both as a teacher and student.

By “day”, Morgan is an Urban Planner, and in her free time loves hiking, fly fishing, and visiting National Parks with her husband, Joel.

Patrick B. grew up in Colorado Springs and went to UCCS where he earned his BA and MA in History.

Although interested in yoga for a long time, he thought it was more for flexible and athletic types. He began regularly practicing at Pranava after daring himself to give yoga a try. He eventually signed up for the 200 hour certification through Pranava.

For his day job he works in medical education. In his down time he enjoys reading, a good Netflix binge and now and again fostering for HSPPR.

Having always been in awe with the culture and history of India, Samantha Hart”s passion for yoga was a natural and instinctual eventuality. In 2003, after an injury during Pilates, Samantha turned to yoga for rehabilitation. Despite a first few awkward sessions, she fell in love with the peace she experienced, not only with herself, but with her family and others around her after each class. This peace further inspired her to explore further into the philosophy of yoga. In 2007, she received her YogaFit level one certification and began teaching yoga at a gym in Green Bay, WI, where she was already employed as a personal trainer. Following her relocation to the Springs in 2010, she found herself immediately falling in love with Pranava and the transformation it has to offer its students through asana and the 7 other limbs of yoga. She has recently graduated from the PYC 200 hour teacher training and is excited to share her love of yoga with beginners and experienced practitioners alike. She brings her knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology into every class to provide a safe environment to her students. Her goofy, genuine character is reflected in her teachings, and she hopes to impart to her students that we all have something to learn and yoga is one of the greatest teachers.

Taffi loves to start new projects but has a tendency to lose interest and quits right in the middle so she can start another new project. Maybe that”s the Aries in her – always starting something new. But when she discovered yoga via a DVD, her passion for it grew. She enjoys the idea that yoga is a continuous learning experience each and every time she steps onto the mat. Once she found the courage to attend a class, she fell in love with the challenge it brought, the blissful feeling of sweatiness during the class, and the beautiful afterglow that followed. She believes having a solid home practice is important but the community of other yogis that is found in a class brings a whole different dimension to her love for yoga.

She completed her 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training course with Cambio Yoga in August of 2013 and she is currently continuing her education with an additional 300-Hour Teacher Training at Pranava Yoga Center and will graduate in September of 2018. She has a passion to show how yoga is for “any body” and “everybody.” It is her ambition to show that yoga can be affordable and attainable at any age. Currently, Taffi teaches Yin Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, and Power Vinyasa classes.
