Hoa Binh wasn’t on my list but the stay here was so comfortable and convenient and perfect for the price. Clean room and privacy and friendly staff. Exactly what I needed.

I planned to only stay for two days and stayed for 5. I only met one foreigner during my stay so it was a great immersion in modern Vietnam. The view over the river is lovely at sunset. The museum is well worth a visit to see different homes and artifacts. From here you can take a local bus east to Kim Boy hot springs and south to Mai Chau for the scenic treks or homestays. Very few people speak English but I got by with Google Translate which all the young people understand. Everyone was friendly and keen to converse with lots of fun with hand signals every time I went out. Taxis are cheap and trustworthy. There are good shops in the area close to the local bus stop and river. I didn't manage to find a good vegan restaurant but the local places all seem to have tofu and there is a great night market. The coffee is excellent.
