Central Backpackers Hostel – Old Quarter is perfect if you are looking for somewhere that is within the buzz of Hanoi’s little lanes and also a chilled out retreat where you can crack open a beer. The rooftop bar with a view looking over the city is great for meeting people as you will always find other travelers hanging out there and the much talked about Bia Hoi Corner is just down the road. On top of this, free breakfast is served each morning and there is a a happy hour where the beer is totally free.The LocationAny newcomer to Hanoi will soon realize that this place can be like a maze, especially the old quarter. It is best to always use Hoan Kiem Lake to navigate around. At the north end of the lake you will find an extremely busy five-way junction with a KFC nearby. From here, go up the road leading directly north then take the second right down Hang Bac Road. Follow this road east for two hundred meters until you get to Ma May Street on your left. Turn left here and walk for fifty meters. You will soon reach a small cross road. Walk over this and up until the road curves round slightly. At this point you will see a right turn called Dao Duy Tu. Take this road and carry on for a hundred meters, you find the hostel next to Hanoi City Gate up ahead.Rooms and BathroomsA daily cleaning service comes around every day so all rooms are kept very clean. Privates are furnished to a high standard and dorms are spacious. They also come with large lockers under the bunks, AC, and plenty of plug sockets. The dorm bunk beds are large and comfy and Wi-Fi is strong throughout the building; there”s also constant hot water and plenty of bathrooms around.Common SpacesThe common area is great. In the day you have the option of watching a movie or just chilling out on the bar balcony as you overlook Hanoi. Then in the evening, the happy hour draws in all the stayers so meeting fellow travelers is effortless. There is also a foozball table and you can purchase food and shisha pipes. A simple breakfast and tea/coffee are served here each morning and downstairs there are a few computers where you can use the internet for free.Summary This is a hostel that gives you that chilled-out feel whilst still having a great social side to it too. If you are a solo traveler you will inevitably meet friends here and having the buzzing lanes of the old quarter on your doorstep makes it great for setting out and exploring as soon as you walk out.
