4 generations of my family have dined at Kings Barbecue while traveling to the beach. We”ve always looked forward to our meal. Sadly we just paid our last visit. We”ve always had the same plate, barbecue, boiled potatoes and green beans. There have been times where the bbq was not to par but it would be better the next time. On our recent visit we were told they no longer server boiled potatoes. That is like not having fries with your burger. It might not seem like a big deal to some people but it was part of the meal. We picked some different sides because we were too hungry to leave. The vegetables and hushpuppies were cold.The bbq was ok. I guess we didn”t get hot food because we should have went to the buffet. There were a lot of people still grazing even though it was late afternoon. I”m not interested in a buffet with a lot of cheap ingredients and bad tasting food. Kings used to have fantastic desserts on a cart that they would push around to the tables. That too is gone. I passed the buffet on the way to the washroom and I could tell the pies were from the freezer. The banana pudding looked real. It is obvious that someone else is managing the restaurant. Friends have recommended Wilbur”s in Goldsboro. If I travel that way I will take their advice. Never again will I stop at Kings in Kinston. They”ve been in business since 1936 I doubt they will make to 2036.
