Having looked at trip advisor before we booked we knew easy tiger was the place to be but there was no space for us so instead we stayed at gecko. The staff were unhelpful and uncommunicative, they advertised things like a free talk about the caves but we never saw evidence of these things. The beds were hard but not too bad. The breakfast was small and disappointing – especially the fruit salad which was about three pieces of fruit covered in masses of honey… We went to easy tiger down the road for advise on the caves and buses to Hanoi as we couldn”t get this at our own hostel. All in all an okay place to sleep but much better options are around for the same price if not cheaper.More

Stayed in this hostel back in February. The dorm I stayed in was large and roomy. It had a private bathroom which was also spacious. The room did get damp at times but that was due to the weather. Staff was good. Located near all the restaurants. The hostel is also about a 30 min drive to the cave, which I definitely recommend! They had decent breakfast with eggs, toast and sausage/bacon. The hostel also has decent happy hour. Would recommend this hostel.

I stayed in the three-bed room with a private bathroom (with nice hardwood floors!). Having a bathroom just for our room was awesome, but there was a smell that came from the toilet that made the room smell. Breakfast was goodt – but the options were very westernized. Would like to see more Vietnamese options for food.

This hostel is really great. The rooms are super clean and large. Each dorm room with 6 beds has its own bathroom. Surprisingly, I found myself preferring to have a communal bathroom, because waiting for 5 other people to use the bathroom could be annoying sometimes. The food downstairs was great, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. There”s also a great lookout on the roof, and you can get drinks or water downstairs. And don”t miss happy hour!
We stayed at gecko for couple of nights and i have to admit I never felt as close to home as I felt staying at gecko! Mr. Hai,the manager,it”s one of the best and nicest person you could ever meet. He took care of us personally,being so open and helpful with everything we needed.All the staff is super friendly and caring for the customers.The hostel is new,super cool,and the rooms/beds are huge! They also have a restaurant with lots and great options. It”s a great great value hostel which I highly recommend if you are in phong nha!I will come back for sure.
Pro:clean rooms, everything you need (free breakfast, wifi, bar, etc)Con:staff not always the friendliestWe didn”t book any tours with them, just rented a motorbike in the place right next to it and did the caves by ourselves. Which was fantasic!
